the black ankle boot

I’m very particular when it comes to shopping for black ankle boots. The shape; how do they make my feet and legs look? The details; I strongly dislike zippers or metal accents. The functionality; can I walk 20 city blocks in them? These things all play into my decision making.

Loewe Fall 2018

Loewe Fall 2018

This season I have tried on dozens of new styles but have yet to find the boots for fall 2018. The common theme is a slightly square or pointed toe and a moderately sized heel. When it comes to brands, I think The Row, Balenciaga, and now Loewe (once Celine, RIP) do footwear best, and Zara or Mango for affordable styles that are ideal for inclement weather.

the denim jacket

To be completely honest, I was never that into denim jackets until Balenciaga debuted their FW16 collection. As an acceptable blazer alternative, denim jackets always felt too 'too relaxed' for me, and the search for the perfect fit, color and brand was never-ending.

Balenciaga really changed the denim jacket game though, with the idea that denim jackets can too, look chic when paired with heels, skirts or a crisp, poplin button-down. Levi's might be America's favorite denim, but now it's all about a modern cut.

As much as I loved the runway's swing style, last fall, I bought this jacket and I couldn't be happier. The cut is classic and the wash is timeless, and now that spring is finally here I can't stop wearing it with everything from skirts, to dresses and wide-leg trousers. See above are a few denim jackets (that are just as cool as Balenciaga) that I'm loving right now.

the statement coat

Like shoes, I love coats and can never have enough. Not just any coat, however, but a statement coat — a classic coat that goes with everything, but still turns heads, and "where is your coat from?" on repeat. More than anything, I love how they can completely transform any outfit, and requires little thought about what to wear underneath.

When shopping for a statement coat, especially one that is worth the investment, I always stick to neutral colors, classic prints like a check or houndstooth (though, I am completely smitten with Burberry's tartan this season?), and incredible, structured silhouettes. Lastly, become BFF with your tailor. After spending hundreds of dollars on a beautiful coat, there is nothing worse than an ill-fit. See below for my favorite statement coats of the season.

the white sneaker

I've always chosen comfort when it comes to footwear so over time I've grown a silent collection of sneakers. Silent, because on most occasions I opt for a flat or mule, even in the dead of winter.  But I really do love the ease of a good sneaker — they're unfussy and can be worn with just about everything (dresses, skirts, trousers, etc).

Currently my go-to style is a classic canvas or leather white sneaker. Last season I fell in love with Celine's '70s-style plimsole, as seen on the Spring/Summer 17 runway. This style will never go out of style, so after many white sneaker try-ons I finally purchased a pair with the classic red accents. I can't wait to wear them!

What is so great though about the white sneaker craze is that you can find a pair at any price point. Scroll below for my choice of anything but basic (no boring Stan Smith or Superga here!) white sneaker options.
